The Studio Mind is an artist-owned space in Downtown Martinez, which is located 25 miles northeast of Oakland, California. Doors opened in September 2016 with owner Maritza Ruiz-Kim showing her own recent artwork. A program of quarterly art exhibitions began in early 2017, with an eye towards showing work that prompts an engaging and relevant discourse between the people of Diablo Valley and contemporary art.

The Studio Mind also serves as a community space by hosting an art class for the local Boys & Girls Club, holding a studio practice class for teens, and consulting to develop the studio art curriculum for I3 Institute’s lab STEM school, the Center of Gravity.

Maritza Ruiz-Kim is a San Francisco Bay Area artist who has a BFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute. She uses her artwork to examine emotional landscapes and social structures. In 2013 she launched ProWax Journal, serving as Editor-in-Chief until Summer 2016, when she turned her focus to opening The Studio Mind. Maritza has exhibited her work in San Francisco, New York, Miami, Santa Fe, and Provincetown.
